The right place for “Green tourism” are not only protected natural environments. It has to take place in any tourist destination, may it be a thriving metropolis, a desert, rural village, sub-tropical island or a medieval town. Sleeping green is a good start.

We believe it is a shared responsibility to make tourism environmentally friendlier and more ethical. We have therefore compiled some general information about responsible (also called sustainable) tourism and also some “green” and responsible travel tips that you as a traveler can easily follow. Before giving examples on how you can help tourism become a force for good, let’s explore the concept of sustainable tourism. The idea of sustainable tourism includes the three pillars of sustainability: the environmental factor, the social factor and the economic factor. Translated to tourism this means all tourism players (accommodation providers, travel agencies, tour and transport operators, local communities, and of course the tourists) should operate or behave in a way that the environmental degradation and negative impact on social communities is minimized as much as possible or in other words environmental integrity, social justice and the local economic benefit are maximized.

Please refer to our Environmental Policy Statement to learn what we are doing to make a difference and reduce our impact.

So what is it a traveler like you can do to positively influence the direction of tourism?

First of all, become aware of your own impact on the local territory. Who’s aware of one’s own travel behavior can determine the influence on the local community and the environment.

Thanks for your attention!

Sleep Green Apple – 1.2

Eat Regional

The pollution caused by transporting goods can be reduced that way. Opt for organic and fair-trade products. It’s not only better for your health but also for that of farmers since dangerous pesticides are avoided, so again it lowers the impact on the environment and fair-trade contributes to social justice. Eat vegetarian. It saves lives and is better for you and the environment.
Sleep Green Recycle – 1.2

Make the slogan Reduce, Reuse, Recycle part of your daily routine. For example, to avoid plastic (and paper) bags take a backpack with you when you do your grocery shopping instead of taking home plastic bags.
Sleep Green Bus – 1

Last but not least, avoid air travel as much as you can. If train and bus are not an option, consider offsetting the CO2 emissions of your flight. When exploring Barcelona opt for a bike to take in the sights and sounds!
Sleep Green Culture – 1

The socio-culture of any city is extremely important, it's the reason we travel, explore, and meet people across the world. To experience genuine uniqueness surrounded by natural and man made beauty it is so very important to respect this socio-cultural of the host community. When visiting a city behave the way you would like when others visit your home!
Sleep Green Water – 1.2

Use water and other resources wisely. For example, you can save a huge amount of water by turning off the tap when you brush your teeth or shave, or by taking showers in rivers ?

"Whoever travels responsibly can experience more in future: more nature, more culture, more individuality and hospitality.."
